What are
Cutting Tools?
In the metalworking industry specifically, "cutting tools"
can be described as a utility tool made of metal (i.e., either
high speed steel, carbide, diamond and cbn-cubic boron nitride
or, plain high carbon steel) with a sharpened or pointed
cutting edge used to cut objects to form or shape into a
desired model to produce a semi-finished or finished product.
Cutting tools are used to machine various base materials
made of metal, wood, plastic and other materials, as the case
or required may be.
The most common types of Cutting Tools are Drills,
Endmills, Inserts, Reamers, Slitting Saw, Taps, etc. Cutting
tools can be ordered with or without coating such as TiN
(Titanium Nitride), TiCN (Titanium Carbon Nitride), TiAlN
(Titanium Aluminum Nitride)depending on the base materials to
be cut.
Cutting Tools are usually installed in a machine suited for
its purpose. It can be Drilling, Lathe, Milling, Tapping
Machines etc. While machines can also be categorized into
Conventional, CNC (Computer Numerically-Controlled Machines)
or NC (Numercially Controlled machines) Machines.
